Phil Emery –IMG_8811

Phil Emery is a native Coloradan who has taught at all levels, K-12. Born into a musical family, he pursued music education in the same way his father Mark, and great-grandfather William did. A graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, he was a member of UNC Lab II and Symphonic Band on saxophone as well as Drum Major of The Pride of the Rockies Marching Band. Mr. Emery is thrilled to be a part of the Pirate Band and is committed to maintaining and growing the superior instrumental programs at the school. He lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife Melissa, sons Parker & Peyton, and bulldog Pancake.

Mr. Malott is a native of Colorado where he received his bachelors in music education (k-12) from the University of Colorado, Boulder (Go Buffs!). While attending the University of Colorado, Mr. Malott served as Lead trombonist for the downbeat award winning Jazz Ensemble 1, as well as many other University ensembles including the CU Trombone Choir, Symphonic Band, University Singers and Golden Buffalo Marching Band. In addition to being a music educator Mr. Malott continues to have a professional career as a trombonist performing regularly in Colorado and throughout the country. As a teacher Spencer has spent the last 3 years teaching middle school and high school band in North Carolina. He is thrilled to be back in his home state teaching instrumental music in a phenomenal community! In Mr. Malott’s spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and teaching trombone to his 6-year-old niece.

Assistant Director/Percussion:

Colin Constance –

Colin Constance holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Kansas and a Master’s in Percussion Performance from Colorado State University. He has been teaching since 2002 in a variety of percussion fields including orchestral, marching, chamber ensemble, and private lessons. He is a freelance performer, having appeared with the Colorado Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, and many other regional symphonies across the Rocky Mountain region. Additionally, he has performed as a drum set artist and featured soloist on steel drum. He is a member of the Vic Firth Education Team and has experience teaching all levels of students from kindergarteners all the way to master’s candidates, including a GTA position held at Colorado State. Mr. Constance is an active percussion composer/arranger and serves the University of Denver Athletic Bands as Assistant Conductor. He is a native of Lawrence, KS and is an avid sports fan as well as a geography and history enthusiast.
